Conclusion

This event proved to be notably successful, with more than 55 delegates from 20 countries actively participating, with notable intensive discussions between Ph.D. students and senior acknowledged researchers from different disciplines. The participant’s presentations are listed in Annex 2, and are available on the official site, linked from the FIDIS internal portal. Annex 4 gives the full list of participants.

Certainly this Summer School event was timely, with the theme on Identity Management in relation to current and future technologies in a variety of contexts tying in very well with on-going FIDIS work, and highly active research topics. Equally, the co-operation of IFIP and FIDIS for this event worked very well and proved highly complementary. Since IFIP takes a holistic approach to technology, and FIDIS supports interdisciplinary exchange, so participants’ contributions ranged well, combining perspectives such as technical, social, ethical and legal.

Overall, the feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, especially with regard to the choice of topic, its relevance to their own work, and the wider work of their institution. Equally, the consensus was that a good balance between the represented disciplines was found to the benefit of the event and its participants. More generally, it was widely acknowledged that the organisation, administration and location were of an excellent standard and that the event objectives were met to the satisfaction of all participants. The approach taken for reviewing submissions worked well, resulting in a high quality published proceedings.

Feedback from this event is being further reviewed and fed into the organisation of the next Summer School event which is tentatively set for September 2008.
