IBM Research GmbH

IBM Research GmbH, Zurich Research Laboratory (ZRL, http://www.zurich.ibm.com/) in Rüschlikon, Switzerland, is the European branch of IBM Research (http://www.research.ibm.com/), which employs a total of some 3000 individuals at eight sites worldwide. The Zurich Laboratory itself employs about 300 people, representing more than 20, mainly European, nationalities.

The ZRL was established in 1956, and pursues research activities in three scientific and technical departments: Computer Science (http://www.zurich.ibm.com/csc/index.html), Systems (http://www.zurich.ibm.com/sys/index.html), and Science and Technology (http://www.zurich.ibm.com/st/). Main research topics are security and privacy, advanced server technology, and nanotechnology.

Also located at the ZRL campus is the IBM Forum Zurich - Research Industry Solutions Lab (http://www.zurich.ibm.com/isl/index.html), which brings together customers and researchers in a unique and effective way.

A new offering is on demand innovation services (http://domino.research.ibm.com/odis/odis.nsf/pages/index.html): A partnership between IBM Research and Business Consulting Services, where researchers and consultants work together on client engagements to provide cutting-edge solutions.

IBM researchers are active members of the international scientific community. For example, the ZRL is involved in more than 80 joint projects with universities throughout Europe, in research programs established by the European Union and the Swiss Government, and in cooperation agreements with research institutions of industrial partners.
